Turkish steam coal imports slumped to 2.2m tonnes in March, down 15.9% m-o-m and down 27.6% y-o-y. Colombian deliveries fell to 1.3m tonnes, down 20.7% m-o-m and down 27.5% y-o-y. Russian supplies increased by 16% m-o-m to 820KT, but this was also 16.9% below last year’s level. Imports of South African material declined to the lowest level since July last year, at 90KT, down 67.8% m-o-m and down 42.1% y-o-y.
This means that Turkey imported 7.6m tonnes of steam coal in Q118, down 220KT or 2.8% y-o-y. This was in spite of a 4.8% y-o-y increase in Colombian deliveries to 4.5m tonnes, up 210KT. On the other hand, Russian supplies declined to 2.6m tonnes, down 40KT or 1.7% y-o-y. Imports from South Africa remained largely unchanged, at 410KT.
