Turkish steam coal imports increased to 3.4m tonnes in October, up 22.3% m-o-m and up 12.3% y-o-y. Colombia was the main supplier of coal to Turkey in October with 1.5m tonnes delivered in October, up 28.4% m-o-m and up 5.4% y-o-y. Russia supplied 1.45m tonnes, up 9.8% m-o-m and up 3.2% y-o-y. Imports from South Africa increased to 390KT, up from 240KT supplied in September and higher than meagre 60KT delivered in October 2016.
Turkish steam coal demand remains relatively high with imports reaching 26.1m tonnes over the first 10 months of the year, up 1.2m tonnes or 4.8% y-o-y. Colombian supplies increased to 13.3m tonnes, up 1.1m tonnes or 8.7% y-o-y; while imports from Russia increased to 10.6m tonnes, up 750KT or 7.6% y-o-y. On the other hand, South African deliveries declined to 1.6m tonnes, down 280KT or 15.1% y-o-y.
