Hard coal exports from Australian PWCS terminals totalled 8.4m tonnes in November, up 18.3% m-o-m but still was 9.6% lower y-o-y. This includes steam coal exports, which totalled 7.4m tones, up 18.3% m-o-m but still was 7.4% lower y-o-y. Coking coal shipments reached 1m tonnes, up 18.3% m-o-m but still were 22.5% lower y-o-y.
The split per destination is only available for hard coal. PWCS shipments to Japan totalled 4.5m tonnes in November, up 8.5% m-o-m but still was 3.9% lower y-o-y. Exports to South Korea increased to 1.2m tonnes, up 19.4% m-o-m and up 1.7% y-o-y; while dispatches to Taiwan reached 1m tonnes, up 42.9% m-o-m and up 6.4% y-o-y. Shipments to China totalled 630KT, up 1.6% m-o-m but still were 65.4% lower y-o-y.
PWCS exported 95.4m tonnes of hard coal over the first 11 months of the year, down 4.8m tonnes or 4.8% y-o-y. Steam coal exports decreased to 82.4m tonnes, down 4.1m tonnes or 4.8% y-o-y; while coking coal shipments declined to 12.9m tonnes, down 640KT or 4.7% y-o-y.
High demand from Japan prompted an increase in shipments to 52.1m tonnes over the Jan.-Nov. period, up 2m tonnes or 4% y-o-y. Similarly, dispatches to South Korea increased to 12.9m tonnes, up 690KT or 5.7% y-o-y. On the other hand, exports to Taiwan and China declined to 11.7m tonnes and 9.6m tonnes respectively, down 12.2% and 22.9% y-o-y.
