According to our calculations, Indian coal production totalled 60.3m tonnes in November, up 9.8% m-o-m but still was 1% lower y-o-y. Coal output at India’s largest state-owned coal producer, Coal India increased to 51.3m tonnes, up 11.2% m-o-m and up 2.6% y-o-y. This is 3.6m tonnes lower than the monthly output target set by the company at 54.9m tonnes. Output at India’s second largest coal producer, SCCL totalled 4.5m tonnes, up 11.1% m-o-m but still was 19.7% lower y-o-y. Coal production by smaller independent coal miners decreased to 4.5m tonnes, down 4.3% m-o-m and down 15.3% y-o-y.
Indian coal production increased to 610.2m tonnes over the first 11 months of the year, up 17.6m tonnes or 3% y-o-y. CIL produced 505.7m tonnes, up 19.3m tonnes or 4% y-o-y. SCCL produced 55.3m tonnes, up 1.6m tonnes or 3.1% y-o-y. Independent producers produced 49.3m tonnes, down 3.3m tonnes or 6.3% y-o-y.
