Japanese steam coal imports totalled 10.6m tonnes in October, up 17.5% m-o-m and were only 0.2% lower y-o-y. Australian supplies totalled 6.6m tonnes, up 2.6% m-o-m but still were 12.5% lower y-o-y. Imports from Russia increased to 1.6m tonnes, up 74.5% m-o-m and up 39.4% y-o-y. Indonesian supplies increased to 1.1m tonnes, up 25% m-o-m and up 20.5% y-o-y. The US delivered 270KT, up from 200KT supplied in September and up from meagre 70KT in October 2016.
Japanese steam coal imports increased to 99.8m tonnes over the first 10 months of the year, up 4.7m tonnes or 4.9% y-o-y. Australian deliveries increased to 68.9m tonnes, up 600KT or 0.9% y-o-y. Indonesian supplies increased to 11.5m tonnes, up 1.5m tonnes or 14.5% y-o-y. Imports from Russia increased to 9.4m tonnes, up 810KT or 9.4% y-o-y. The US delivered 1.7m tonnes, up 970KT or 132.9% y-o-y.
