French power generation reached 39.7TWh in October

French power generation totalled 39.7TWh in October, up 2.7% m-o-m but was slightly lower by 0.5% y-o-y. Thermal power generation increased to 5.4TWh, up 78.2% m-o-m and up 6.3% y-o-y. On the other hand, nuclear power generation declined to 28.1TWh, down 4.4% m-o-m and down 3.3% y-o-y.

Renewable power generation totalled 6.3TWh in October, down 0.7% m-o-m but still was 7.5% higher y-o-y. This includes hydropower generation, which declined to 2.7TWh, down 11.4% m-o-m and down 10.9% y-o-y. On the other hand, wind power generation increased to 2.1TWh, up 26% m-o-m and up 48.7% y-o-y. Solar power generation totalled 0.7TWh, down 13.9% m-o-m but still was 1.2% higher y-o-y. Generation from biomass and waste totalled 0.7TWh, down 0.6% m-o-m but still was 13.4% higher y-o-y.

French power generation declined to 431TWh over the first 10 months of the year, down 0.8% y-o-y. This is mostly due to the fall in nuclear power output, which decreased to 311.4TWh, down 1.5% y-o-y. On the other hand, thermal power output increased to 41.3TWh, up 29.8% y-o-y.

Renewable power generation declined to 78.6TWh over the Jan.-Oct. period, down 9.3% y-o-y. Hydro generation decreased to 44.3TWh, down 19.6% y-o-y. On the other hand, power generation from wind and solar increased to 18.3TWh and 8.5TWh respectively, up 8.2% and up 11.7% y-o-y. Generation from biomass and waste increased to 7.5TWh, up 7.6% y-o-y.
