Spanish power generation totalled 20.2TWh in October, up 5.9% m-o-m but still was 2.1% lower y-o-y. Coal-fired generation totalled 3.9TWh, up 38.2% m-o-m but still was 8.8% lower y-o-y. Gas-fired generation increased to 3.9TWh, up 20.4% m-o-m and up 18.1% y-o-y.
Nuclear power generation declined to 4.3TWh, down 8.7% m-o-m and down 15.3% y-o-y.
Hydroelectric power generation declined to an all-time low at 0.89TWh, down 28.9% m-o-m and down 50.6% y-o-y. Power generation from other renewables such as wind, solar, biomass and waste totalled 6.7TWh, down 3.9% m-o-m but still was 10.1% higher y-o-y. Wind generation increased to 3.1TWh, up 11.4% m-o-m and up 30.3% y-o-y. Solar generation totalled 0.64TWh, down 12.8% m-o-m but still was 12.8% higher y-o-y. Generation from biomass and waste increased t0 3.9TWh, up 20.4% m-o-m and up 18.1% y-o-y.
Spanish power generation declined to 204.1TWh over the first 10 months of the year, down 1.6% y-o-y. Coal-fired generation increased to 33.8TWh, up 32.2% y-o-y; while gas-fired generation increased to 26.3TWh, up 40.5% y-o-y.
Nuclear generation decreased to 47TWh, down 2.1% y-o-y.
Increase in thermal power generation is mostly due to the fall in renewable generation. Hydro generation declined to 17.5TWh, down 50.3% y-o-y. Power generation from other renewable sources also declined to 77TWh, down 2% y-o-y. This includes wind generation, which declined to 37.5TWh, down 8.5% y-o-y. On the other hand, generation from solar, biomass and waste increased to 6.9TWh and 32.5TWh respectively, up 2.2% y-o-y and up 7.2% y-o-y.
