Russian coal production and exports increased in October on high Far Eastern demand

Increase in Far Eastern demand led Russian coal producers to increase coal output in October. Russian coal production increased to 36.5m tonnes in October, up 3.7% m-o-m and up 9.1% y-o-y. This takes the coal output to 336.3m tonnes over the Jan.-Octo. period, up 21.4m tonnes or 6.8% y-o-y.

Coal exports also increased to 16.5m tonnes, up 5% m-o-m and up 16.5% y-o-y. Russia exported 155.3m tonnes of coal over the first 10 months of the year, up 19.3m tonnes or 14.2% y-o-y.

Russian power generation totalled 91.1TWh in October, up 11.1% m-o-m but still was 2.1% lower y-o-y. This takes the power output to 873.1TWh, up 0.7% y-o-y.
