Australian PWCS coal shipments declined to 7.1Mt in October, down 22% y-o-y

Total coal shipments from the Australian PWCS terminals (steam and coking) declined to 7.1m tonnes in October, down 23.8% m-o-m and down 22% y-o-y. Steam coal exports declined to 6.2m tonnes, down 21.1% m-o-m and down 19.9% y-o-y; while coking coal shipments decreased to 850KT, down 39% m-o-m and down 34.7% y-o-y. Unfortunately split per destination is only available for the total shipments.

Coal shipments to Japan declined to 4.1m tonnes last month, down 17% m-o-m and down 5.5% y-o-y. Exports to South Korea totalled 980KT, down 44.3% m-o-m but still were 5.4% higher y-o-y. Dispatches to Taiwan declined to 700KT, down 33.3% m-o-m and down 43.5% y-o-y. Shipments to China totalled 620KT, up 55% m-o-m but still were 50% lower y-o-y.




PWCS coal exports declined to 87m tonnes over the first 10 months of the year, down 3.9m tonnes or 4.3% y-o-y. Shipments to Japan increased to 46.6m tonnes, up 2.1m tonnes or 4.8% y-o-y. Dispatches to South Korea increased to 11.7m tonnes, up 670KT or 6.1% y-o-y. On the other hand, shipments to Taiwan and China declined to 10.7m tonnes and 9m tonnes respectively, down 13.6% and 15.6% y-o-y.
