Italian power generation declined to 19.8TWh in September, down 6% m-o-m and down 4.9% y-o-y. Thermal power generation declined 12.3TWh, down 8.2% m-o-m and down 13.3% y-o-y. This includes coal-fired generation, which increased to 1.7TWh, up 3.7% m-o-m and up 3.8% y-o-y. On the other hand, gas-fired generation declined to 8.9TWh, down 10.8% m-o-m and down 17.2% y-o-y. Oil-fired generation declined to 1.7TWh, down 4.7% m-o-m and down 5.2% y-o-y.
Renewable generation totalled 7.3TWh, down 3.2% m-o-m but still was 13% higher y-o-y. Solar generation decreased to 2TWh, down 18.8% m-o-m and down 5.1% y-o-y. Geothermal power output also declined to 0.5TWh, down 4.6% m-o-m and down 3.3% y-o-y. Hydro generation totalled 3.5TWh, down 8.6% m-o-m but 11.7% higher y-o-y. Wind generation surged to 1.3TWh, up 85.2% m-o-m and up 87.3% y-o-y.
Italian power output increased to 186.4TWh over the first 9 months of the year, up 2.4% y-o-y. Thermal power generation increased to 118.4TWh, up 16.9% y-o-y. Gas-fired generation increased to 86.8TWh, up 21.8% y-o-y. On the other hand, coal-fired generation declined to 15.5TWh, down 3.3% y-o-y. Oil-fired generation decreased to 16.1TWh, down 16.8% y-o-y.
Renewable generation declined to 66.2TWh over the period, down 15.8% y-o-y. Solar generation increased to 21.3TWh, up 2.6% y-o-y. On the other hand, hydro generation declined to 31.1TWh, down 14.4% y-o-y. Geothermal output decreased to 4.3TWh, down 2.1% y-o-y. Wind generation also declined to 9.5TWh, down 15.5% y-o-y.
