Vietnamese steam coal imports declined to 1Mt in September

Vietnamese steam coal imports totalled 1m tonnes in September, down 28.2% m-o-m but still 24.4% higher y-o-y. Indonesian supplies increased to 570KT, up 11.8% m-o-m and up 140% y-o-y. On the other hand, Australian deliveries declined to 160KT, down 44.1% m-o-m and down 12.3% y-o-y. Imports from Russia also decreased to 200KT, down 45.8% m-o-m and down 18.8% y-o-y.

Vietnamese steam coal imports declined to 10.4m tonnes over the first 9 months of the year, down 230KT or 2.2% y-o-y. Australian deliveries declined to 2.7m tonnes, down 710KT or 21% y-o-y. Imports from Russia decreased to 1.6m tonnes, down 1.6m tonnes or 50.4% y-o-y. On the other hand, Indonesian supplies increased to 4.3m tonnes, up 2.3m tonnes or more than double year-ago levels.
