Turkish steam coal imports increased to the highest level since November 2016, at 3.4m tonnes in August, up 21% m-o-m and up 51.2% y-o-y. Colombia remained the largets supplies to Turkish market with 1.7m tonnes delivered in August, up 3.7% m-o-m and up 76.8% y-o-y. This was followed by Russia, which supplied 1.3m tonnes, up 18.7% m-o-m and up 10.7% y-o-y. Imports from South Africa increased to the highest level since March 2016, at 380KT; up from meagre 60KT in July and higher than 100KT supplied in August last year.
Turkey imported 19.9m tonnes over the Jan.-August period, up 570KT or 2.9% y-o-y. Colombia delivered 10.6m tonnes, up 1.2m tonnes or 13.2% y-o-y; while Russian supplies increased to 7.8m tonnes, up 200KT or 2.7% y-o-y. On the other hand, South African deliveries declined to 950KT, down 790KT or 45.4% y-o-y.
