Russian electricity generation remained steady in September at 81.4TWh, down by 0.7% m-o-m but still was marginally higher by 0.9% y-o-y. Power generation increased to 781.4TWh over the first 9 months of the year, up 1% y-o-y.
Coal production increased to the highest level since December ’16 at 34.6m tonnes, up 4.4% m-o-m and up 8.9% y-o-y. Coal supply to the domestic market increased to 29.3m tonnes, up 3.2% m-o-m and up 11.4% y-o-y. Coal exports totalled 15.3m tonnes, down 2.2% m-o-m but still were 9.8% higher y-o-y.
Russian coal output increased to 298.7m tonnes over the Jan.-Sept. period, up 17.7m tonnes or 7.3% y-o-y. Domestic coal supply increased to 259.1m tonnes, up 17.7m tonnes or 7.3% y-o-y. Coal shipments increased to 137.1m tonnes, up 15.2m tonnes or 12.5% y-o-y.
