According to provisional data, Indian coal production increased to 47.7m tonnes in September, up 2.7% m-o-m and up 11.1% y-o-y. This includes coal output by India’s top state-owned coal producer, Coal India, which increased to 38.8m tonnes, up 3% m-o-m and up 10% y-o-y. SCCL produced 4.5m tonnes, up 0.7% m-o-m and up 12.9% y-o-y. Coal output at smaller independent mines also increased to 4.4m tonnes, up 2.3% m-o-m and up 19.5% y-o-y.
Indian coal output increased to 495.2m tonnes over the first 9 months of the year, up 16.4m tonnes or 3.4% y-o-y. CIL produced 408.2m tonnes, up 15.4m tonnes or 3.9% y-o-y. SCCL output increased to 46.7m tonnes, up 3.4m tonnes or 7.8% y-o-y. On the other hand, coal production by independent producers declined to 40.3m tonnes, down 2.4m tonnes or 5.7% y-o-y.
