Turkish power generation declined slightly in August to 27.9TWh, although still was 6.6% higher y-o-y. However the annual rise was much lower than July’s increase of 16.4%.
Thermal power generation declined by 2.9% m-o-m to 20.1TWh in August due to fall in lignite- and gas-fired output, but still was 9.9% higher y-o-y. Coal-fired generation increased to 5.5TWh, up 3.6% m-o-m and up 8.3% y-o-y. Lignite-fired power output totalled 3.5TWh, down 10.5% m-o-m but still was 1.2% higher y-o-y. Gas-fired generation reached 10.8TWh, down 3.5% m-o-m but still was 13.5% higher y-o-y.
Renewable generation increased to 8TWh in August, up 5.4% m-o-m and up 2.1% y-o-y. Hydro generation totalled 4.8TWh, up 2% m-o-m but still was 14.2% lower y-o-y. Power generation from other renewables such as wind, solar and biomass increased to 3.2TWh, up 11.1% m-o-m and up 43.1% y-o-y.
Overall, Turkish power generation increased to 195.5TWh over the first 8 months of the year, up 7% y-o-y. Thermal power generation increased to 133.7TWh, up 11.8% y-o-y. This includes coal-fired generation, which increased to 35.8TWh, up 5.6% y-o-y. Lignite-fired generation increased to 26.1TWh, up 6.5% y-o-y. Gas-fired generation increased to 16.8% y-o-y.
Despite increase in August’s output, renewable generation declined to 63.5TWh over the Jan.-Aug. period, down 2.8% y-o-y. This is due to the fall in hydro generation, which declined to 44.9TWh, down 9% y-o-y. On the other hand generation from other renewables increased to 18.6TWh, up 35.1% y-o-y.
