Chinese steam coal imports (bituminous, sub-bituminous, anthracite and lignite) increased to 19.6m tonnes in August, up 45.2% m-o-m and up 0.6% y-o-y. Imports from Australia totalled 4.6m tonnes, up 11.3% m-o-m but still were 16% lower y-o-y. On the other hand, Indonesian deliveries (including lignite) increased to 9.8m tonnes, up 34.2% m-o-m and up 6.2% y-o-y. Russian supplies increased to 2.1m tonnes, up 34.1% m-o-m and up 19.3% y-o-y. Imports from Mongolia increased to 630KT, up 11.3% m-o-m and up 176.9% y-o-y.
Chinese steam coal imports increased to 126.1m tonnes over the Jan.-August period, up 12.9m tonnes or 11.4% y-o-y. Australian supplies increased to 32.3m tonnes, up 4.3m tonnes or 15.1% y-o-y. Indonesian supplies increased to 68.4m tonnes, up 11.6m tonnes or 20.4% y-o-y. Imports from Russia increased to 15.9m tonnes, up 3.9m tonnes or 32.6% y-o-y. Imports from Mongolia increased to 5.4m tonnes, up from 1.6m tonnes during the same period last year.
