Coal production at major Chinese provinces increased in August

Production in the coal-rich Shanxi province declined by 1.1% m-o-m to 74.4m tonnes in August because of disruptions caused by government safety checks. Despite that, coal output increased by 11.8% y-o-y. Other Chinese provinces reported a rise in coal output. Inner Mongolia produced 74.6m tonnes, up 1.5% m-o-m and up 10% y-o-y. Shaanxi produced 49.6m tonnes, up 0.6% m-o-m and 15.9% y-o-y.

Despite the deep in August’s production, Shanxi coal output increased to 566.2m tonnes over the Jan.-August period, up 39.9m tonnes or 7.6% y-o-y; while Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region produced 607.8m tonnes, up 90.8m tonnes or 17.6% y-o-y. Shaanxi produced to 344.5m tonnes, up 61.6m tonnes or 21.8% y-o-y.
