According to preliminary data, Turkish steam coal imports totalled 2.8m tonnes in July, up 26.7% m-o-m and were only 0.1% lower y-o-y. Colombia regained its position as the main steam coal supplier to Turkey with 1.7m tonnes delivered in July, up 67.2% m-o-m. Imports from Colombia remained unchanged y-o-y. Supplies from Russia declined from June’s 7-month high to 1.1m tonnes in July, down 11.7% m-o-m but still were 8.7% higher y-o-y. Imports from South Africa increased to 60KT, up from 30KT in June but still were below 90KT imported in July 2016.
Turkey imported 16.5m tonnes over the first 7 months of the year, down 590KT or 3.5% y-o-y. Shipments from South Africa declined to just 570KT, down 1.1m tonnes or 65.2% y-o-y. On the other hand, Colombian deliveries increased to 8.9m tonnes, up 500KT or 5.9% y-o-y. Imports from Russia increased marginally to 6.5m tonnes, up by just 80KT or 1.3% y-o-y.
