PWCS hard coal exports declined to 8m tonnes in August, down 15.6% m-o-m and down 6.8% y-o-y. This includes steam coal exports, which declined to 7m tonnes, down 16.5% m-o-m and down 5.8% y-o-y. Coking coal shipments also declined to 1m tonnes, down 8.5% m-o-m and down 13.5% y-o-y.
Hard coal exports to Japan increased to 5m tonnes, up 7.2% m-o-m and up 26.7% y-o-y. Shipments to South Korea totalled 920KT, down 41.4% m-o-m but still were 15% higher y-o-y. Dispatches to Taiwan declined to 760KT, down 50.3% m-o-m and down 45.3% y-o-y. Exports to China totalled 670KT, down 34.3% m-o-m but still were 21.8% higher y-o-y.
PWCS hard coal exports declined to 70.6m tonnes over the Jan-August period, down 1.4m tonnes or 2% y-o-y. Steam coal exports declined to 60.9m tonnes, down 1.8m tonnes or 2.9% y-o-y; whereas coking coal shipments totalled 9.7m tonnes, up 370KT or 3.9% y-o-y.
PWCS shipped 37.5m tonnes of hard coal to Japan during the period, up 3.5m tonnes or 10.2% y-o-y. On the other hand export to South Korea declined marginally to 9m tonnes, down 60KT or 0.7% y-o-y. Shipments to Taiwan and China also declined to 8.9m tonnes and 8m tonnes respectively, down 4.3% and 7.5% y-o-y.
