Spanish power generation declined to 20.3TWh in August, down 5.5% m-o-m and down 2.2% y-o-y. Coal -fired generation declined to 3TWh, down 26% m-o-m and down 12% y-o-y. Gas-fired generation totalled 3.5TWh, down 4.6% m-o-m but still was 72.6% higher y-o-y.
Hydroelectric generation declined to 1.2TWh, down 5.1% m-o-m and down 45.1% y-o-y. Power generation from other renewable sources such as wind and solar also declined to 7.3TWh, down 6.2% m-o-m and down 9.7% y-o-y. Wind generation declined to 3.3TWh, down 1.1% m-o-m and down 9.9% y-o-y. Solar power output decreased to 0.8TWh, down 10.8% m-o-m and down 4.3% y-o-y. Combined power generation from thermosolar, biomass and waste declined to 3.2TWh, down 9.8% m-o-m and down 10.8% y-o-y.
Nuclear power generation totalled 5.1TWh in August, up 15.5% m-o-m but still was 1.4% lower y-o-y.
Spanish power output declined to 164.8TWh over the first 8 months of the year, down 1.2% y-o-y. Generation from coal and gas increased to 27TWh and 19.2TWh respectively, up 59.5% y-o-y and up 44.3% y-o-y.
On the other hand, Spanish hydroelectric generation declined to 15.4TWh over the Jan.-Aug. period, down 51.4% y-o-y. Generation from other renewables declined to 63.2TWh, down 3.7% y-o-y. Wind fired generation decreased to 31.6TWh, down 12% y-o-y. On the other hand, power generation from solar increased to 5.6TWh, up 1% y-o-y. Output from thermosolar, biomass and waste also increased to 26TWh, up 9.5% y-o-y.
Nuclear generation remained steady during the period at 37.9TWh, up 0.2% y-o-y.
