German steam coal imports declined in H117

German steam coal imports totalled 2.6m tonnes in June, up 0.9% m-o-m but still were 14.9% lower y-o-y. Russia remained the main supplier to Germany in June, despite the fact that the deliveries declined to 1.3m tonnes, down 0.3% m-o-m and down 17.1% y-o-y. Colombian supplies also declined to 390KT, down 22.8% m-o-m and down 42.3% y-o-y. Imports from the US totalled 280KT, up 58.55 m-o-m but still were 54.3% lower y-o-y. South African supplies totalled just 60KT, down from 110KT delivered in the month prior but still were higher than 10KT supplied in June 2016.

Germany imported 18.8m tonnes of steam coal in H117, down 1.3m tonnes or 6.5% y-o-y. Imports from Russia declined to 8.4m tonnes, down 640KT or 7.1% y-o-y. Colombian supplies declined to 4.1m tonnes, down 780KT or 16.25 y-o-y. US deliveries also declined to 3m tonnes, down 1.8m tonnes or 37.1% y-o-y. On the other hand, South African supplies increased to 930KT, up 510KT or 122.2% y-o-y.
