Dutch steam coal imports declined by 38.7% y-o-y in May

Dutch steam coal imports declined to the lowest level since March 2016 at 1.5m tonnes in May, down 3.8% m-o-m and down 38.7% y-o-y. Russia remained the biggest supplier to the Netherlands in May delivering 510KT, down 14.8% m-o-m and down 44.6% y-o-y. Colombian deliveries declined to 450KT, down 12.6% m-o-m and down 47.4% y-o-y. Imports from the US also declined to 280KT, down 4% m-o-m and down 43.5% y-o-y. On the other hand, South African supplies increased to 210KT, up from just 60KT in April, and also 60KT in May 2016.

The Netherlands imported 10.6m tonnes of steam coal over the first 5 months of the year, down 1.2m tonnes or 10.2% y-o-y. Imports from Russia declined to 3.9m tonnes, down 330KT or 7.7% y-o-y, while Colombian deliveries declined to 3.1m tonnes, down 1.1m tonnes or 26.2% y-o-y. Steam coal supplies from the US also declined to 2m tonnes, down 200KT or 9% y-o-y. On the other hand, South African deliveries increased to 770KT, up 200KT or 34.9% y-o-y.
