Chinese power generation raises in June

Chinese total power generation increased to 520.3TWh in June, up 5.2% m-o-m and up 5.2% y-o-y. This includes. thermal power generation, which increased to 371TWh, up 4.4% m-o-m and up 6.3% y-o-y. Hydroelectric power output totalled 104.4TWh, up 17.8% m-o-m but still was 1.9% lower y-o-y.


Power generation from other renewable sources such as wind and solar totalled 25TWh, down 17.8% m-o-m but still was 16.4% higher y-o-y.

Nuclear power generation totalled 19.9TWh, down 20.9% m-o-m but still was 10.9% higher y-o-y.

Chinese power output increased to 2,959.8TWh in H117, up 6.3% y-o-y. This is due to the rise in thermal power generation based mostly on coal, which increased to 2,215TWh, up 7.1% y-o-y. On the other hand, hydro power generation declined to 461.3TWh, down 4.2% y-o-y. However, power generation from wind and solar increased to 161.6TWh, up 16.7% y-o-y. Nuclear generation also increased to 115.4TWh, up 19.6% y-o-y.
