UK coal consumption falls to all-time low in April

Coal consumption at UK thermal power plants declined to an all time low at 175KT in April, down 66.3% m-o-m and down 76.6% y-o-y. On 21st April, UK went for the first time since the Industrial Revolution for a day without burning coal and instead relied on gas, nuclear and renewables. UK coal usage declined to 4.1m tonnes over the first 4 months of the year, down 1.7m tonnes or 29.1% y-o-y.

Coal stocks at UK thermal power plants increased by 9.8% m-o-m to 5.3m tonnes, although still were 7.7% lower y-o-y.
