Italian power generation reached 16.7TWh in May, up 8.2% m-o-m and was only slightly lower by 0.1% y-o-y. Thermal power generation increased to 11.2TWh, up 1% m-o-m and up 6.5% y-o-y.
This includes, coal-fired generation, which totalled 1.8TWh, up 27.7% m-o-m but still was 2.1% lower y-o-y. Gas-fired generation decreased by 4.3% m-o-m to 7.9TWh, although was still 10.2% higher y-o-y. Oil-fired generation totalled 1.5TWh, up 5.4% m-o-m but was 0.6% lower y-o-y.
Italian power output increased to 100.2TWh over the first 5 months of the year, up 3.5% y-o-y. This is mostly due to increase in thermal power generation to 65.4TWh, up 12% y-o-y. Renewable generation declined to 34.1TWh, down 7.5% y-o-y.
Coal-fired generation increased slightly to 8.8TWh, up 0.7% y-o-y. Gas-fired power output increased to 47.6TWh, up 21.4% y-o-y. Oil-fired generation declined to 9TWh, down 14.1% y-o-y.
