Thailand’s steam coal imports fall in April

Thailand’s steam coal imports declined to 1.9m tonnes in April, down 18.8% m-o-m and down 1.2% y-o-y. Indonesian deliveries totalled 1.4m tonnes, down 13.8% m-o-m and just 2% higher y-o-y. Australian supplies declined to 300KT, down 32.2% m-o-m and down 47.3% y-o-y.

Thailand imported 7.4m tonnes of steam coal over the Jan.-April period, up 230KT or 3.2% y-o-y. Imports from Indonesia declined to 5.1m tonnes, down 550KT or 9.9% y-o-y. Australian supplies also declined to 1.3m tonnes, down 3.2% y-o-y.

On the other hand, imports from other countries such as Russia, Colombia and Malaysia increased to 1m tonnes from just 60KT during the same period last year.
