Japanese cement output rises in May

Japanese cement production increased to 4.9m tonnes in May, up 7.8% m-o-m and up 4.6% y-o-y. This takes the cement output to 24.4m tonnes over the Jan.-May period, up 870KT or 3.7% y-o-y.

Cement stocks declined to 4.1m tonnes, down 1.5% m-o-m and down 6.35 y-o-y.

Cement sales increased to 4.4m tonnes, up 6% m-o-m and up 7.8% y-o-y. Domestic sales totalled 3.2m tonnes, down 1.2% m-o-m but still were 8.6% higher y-o-y. Cement exports increased to 1.2m tonnes, up 31.9% m-o-m and up 5.5% y-o-y.

Sales of cement increased to 21.6m tonnes over the first 5 months of the year, up 590KT or 2.8% y-o-y. This includes domestic sales, which increased to 16.6m tones, up 410KT or 2.5% y-o-y. Exports increased to 5m tonnes, up 180KT or 3.7% y-o-y.
