South Korean steam coal imports totalled 9m tonnes in May, down 6.9% m-o-m but still were 16.2% higher y-o-y. Australian deliveries totalled 2.4m tonnes, down 5.9% m-o-m but still were 30.7% higher y-o-y. This is the first annual increase since May ’16. Indonesian supplies declined to 2.8m tonnes, down 9.3% m-o-m and down 7.8% y-o-y. On the other hand, imports from Russia increased to 1.5m tonnes, up 6.3% m-o-m and up 20.1% y-o-y.
South Korean imports increased to 50.8m tonnes over the Jan.-May period, up 7.1m tonnes or 16.3% y-o-y. Australian deliveries declined to 11.8m tonnes, down 3m tonnes or 19.9% y-o-y. Imports from Russia remained stable at 6.2m tonnes during the period, down just 30KT or 0.5% y-o-y. On the other hand, Indoneisan supplies increased t0p 16.8m tonnes, up 2.6m tonnes or 17.9% y-o-y.
