DATA: Japanese cement output increased by 8.4% y-o-y in April

Japanese cement production totalled 4.6m tonnes in April, down 14.5% m-o-m but still was 8.4% higher y-o-y. This takes the cement output to 19.5m tonnes over the Jan.-April period, up 650KT or 3.5% y-o-y.

Cement sales totalled 4.2m tonnes, down 9.7% m-o-m but still were 2.5% lower y-o-y. Domestic supplies declined to 3.3m tonnes, down 10.1% m-o-m and down 0.7% y-o-y. Cement exports totalled 910KT, down 8.1% m-o-m but still were 16.1% higher y-o-y.

Japanese cement sales increased to 17.2m tonnes over the first 4 months of the year, up 270KT or 1.6% y-o-y. Domestic sales increased by 170KT over the period to 10m tonnes, up 1.8% y-o-y. Exports remained stable at 2.9m tonnes, down by mere 0.3% y-o-y.

Cement stocks declined to 4.2m tonnes, down 5.2% m-o-m and down 4.1% y-o-y.
