Taiwanese steam coal imports increased to 7.3m tonnes in May, up 19.1% m-o-m and up 23.4% y-o-y. Although Australian deliveries were 0.8% lower y-o-y, at 3.2m tonnes, this was up 17.5% m-o-m, while Indonesian deliveries surged to 2.2m tonnes, up 27.2% m-o-m and up 39.9% y-o-y. Imports from Russia declined to 710KT, down 35.7% m-o-m and down 22.1% y-o-y.
Taiwan imported 29.5m tonnes of steam coal over the first 5 months of the year, up 2.7m tonnes or 9.9% y-o-y. Imports from Australia increased to 14.3m tonnes, up 1.1m tonnes or 8.5% y-o-y. Russian supplies increased 1.3m tonnes to 4.4m tonnes, up 40.5% y-o-y. On the other hand, imports from Indonesia declined to 7.8m tonnes during the period, down 1m tonnes or 11.5% y-o-y.
