Turkish steam coal imports fell to 1.3MT in April, down 37.7% y-o-y

Turkish steam coal imports declined sharply to 1.3m tonnes in April, down 56.4% m-o-m and down 37.7% y-o-y. This is the lowest level since April ’14, when the coal imports fell to just 1.1m tonnes. Colombian deliveries declined to the lowest level since May ’16, at 670KT, down 63.2% m-o-m and down 49% y-o-y. Russian supplies totalled 630KT, down 36.1% m-o-m but still were 3.7% higher y-o-y. Shipments from South Africa declined to the lowest level since May ’12 at just 40KT, down 73.4% m-o-m and down 59.2% y-o-y.

Turkish imports declined to 9.1m tonnes over the first 4 months of the year, down 630KT or 6.5% y-o-y. Imports from Colombia increased during the period, despite the fall in April, to 4.9m tonnes, up 300KT or 6.5% y-o-y. Russian deliveries declined to 3.3m tonnes, down 310KT or 8.7% y-o-y. South African supplies declined to 450KT , down 850KT or 65.5% y-o-y.
