Spanish thermal power output increased in May

Spanish power generation totalled 19TWh in May, up 4.6% m-o-m but still were 2.4% lower y-o-y. Coal-fired generation increased to 3.5TWh, 87.1% m-o-m and up 241.9% y-o-y. Gas-fired generation also increased to 1.6TWh, up 31.2% m-o-m and up 9.8% y-o-y. On the other hand, hydro power generation declined to 2TWh, down 0.3% m-o-m and down 63.1% y-o-y.  Power generation from other renewables such as wind, solar and biomass totalled 7.6TWh, down 7.6% m-o-m but still was 0.3% higher y-o-y. Nuclear power generation totalled 4.2TWh, down 15.8% m-o-m but still was 6.6% higher y-o-y.

Spanish total power output declined to 102.2TWh over the first 5 months of the tear, down 1.6% y-o-y. Coal-fired doubled y-o-y to 15.7TWh, up 100.5% y-o-y. Gas-fired generation increased to 8.7TWh, up 23.8% y-o-y. On the hydro generation declined to 11.3TWh, down 53.1% y-o-y. Generation from other renewables declined to 40.8TWh, down 3.9% y-o-y. Nuclear generation increased to 24.4TWh, up 7.5% y-o-y.
