Dutch steam coal imports rose by 24.9% y-o-y in February

Dutch steam coal imports increased to 2.7m tonnes in February, up 25.3% m-o-m and up 24.9% y-o-y. This is mostly due to 10-month high imports from Russia, which increased to 1.1m tonnes, up 50.6% m-o-m and up 73.5% y-o-y. Colombian deliveries also increased to 860KT, up 37% m-o-m and up 10.45 y-o-y. Shipments from the US totalled 450KT, down 3.1% m-o-m but still were 12.65 higher y-o-y. South Africa delivered just 150KT, down 34.95 m-o-m and down 47.1% y-o-y.

Despite the rise in February deliveries, Dutch steam coal imports declined to 4.8m tonnes over the first 2 months of the year, down 140KT or 2.9% y-o-y. Russian supplies remained high at 1.8m tonnes, up 330KT or 23.2% y-o-y. Imports from the US increased marginally by just 30KT to 910KT, up 3.4% y-o-y. On the other hand, shipments from Colombia declined to 1.5m tonnes, down 680KT or 31.5% y-o-y. South African deliveries remained broadly unchanged at 370KT.
